Welcome to This Week's Macaroni!

A little rant about what being 'Mom Enough' means.

I'm sure all of you have seen, or heard about, the "Are You Mom Enough?" magazine cover last week. I don't know about you, but I'm a little tired of each month bringing a new media sensation revolving around which moms are "right".  It doesn't matter if you work away from home, work in the home, don't work, or work in a treehouse. It doesn't matter if you breastfeed or use formula, wear your baby or put them in a stroller. The only thing that matters is that you and your children are happy and satisfied. Are your children satisfied? Are they happy? Do they know they're loved? Then you are mom enough. No mom is perfect. We all try to do the best we can for our children, and that's the most we can do. Don't get drawn into the media-constructed mom wars. Support other moms, even if they make different decisions than you. In the end, all that matters is that your kids are happy and satisfied. And that is the end of my rant for the week. My youngest child is definitively NOT happy, judging by the screams from the baby swing, so I guess it's time to move her into the Moby Wrap. See? Do what works, even if it's a little bit of everything.

The Story of Miss Grace

One little girl's fight with melanoma

The following article was written and contributed by a subscriber to Macaroni Kid St Tammany in Louisiana. It reinforces how important slathering on that sunscreen is, for both adults and kids.

May is melanoma/skin cancer awareness month. For us, we are aware of it on a daily basis.

I took Grace (our youngest of 3 kids) to see her doctor about a bump on her arm. Everyone kept telling us it was nothing more than a wart. I'm no doctor but it was really bothering me and I ...
