Community Creative Center, a non-profit studio arts organization located in Walton Arts Center’s Nadine Baum Studios, is thrilled to announce its newest arts program – The Wheel Mobile, a mobile art studio that takes the potter’s wheel, clay and other art forms directly into the community.
This custom-designed Winnebago is one-of-a-kind. Already nicknamed Arty, The Wheel Mobile houses 9 potter’s wheels, art supplies and clean-up facilities designed to offer ceramics and other art in a mobile capacity.
Says Barb Putman, Community Creative Center’s Executive Director, “For years we have been encouraging people to Imagine More! Now, we’ve taken our own advice and imagined a way to bring the arts to people in a truly unique way."
Mirroring CCC’s current course offerings, the Wheel Mobile will deliver a wide variety of art and clay classes, workshops and arts experiences to the NWA area. Programming will include weekly classes, workshops for families, couples and groups and the Wheel Mobile Experience, a 5 to 30-minute mini-lesson to expose, engage and inform. The vehicle will also be available for corporate teambuilding workshops, birthday parties and community events.
The Wheel Mobile will be a valuable asset to schools and student learning. CCC will work with Northwest Arkansas schools and non-profit youth organizations to develop Wheel Mobile visits that support curriculum, student needs and classroom efforts. Having the arts experience come to campus saves time on student transportation and coordination, and reduces risk and safety concerns, bus use and driver expenses.
Designed and produced at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa, the Wheel Mobile coincides with Community Creative Center’s 10-Year Anniversary celebrations.
Says Kim Peters, Community Creative Center’s Board Chair, “It’s not easy to be innovative with an art form people have been doing basically the same way for millennia. But the Wheel Mobile puts a “brand new spin” on pottery by making it incredibly accessible to people where they live, learn, work and play in communities throughout NWA.”
The Wheel Mobile is made possible through a grant from the Walton Family Foundation. The funding supports the design and construction of the Wheel Mobile along with matching operational funds.
