Easy Tape and Paint Craft is Great and Uses Stuff You Have on Hand

By Kara Ault, Macaroni Kid Fayetteville Publisher and Kinley Ault March 29, 2020

My 9-year-old, Kinley, made this simple but beautiful craft project today. Since we are all home for now, we are using craft supplies we have on hand to help keep us busy and entertained.

This craft is simple and uses supplies you probably have already at home.

Supplies:

  • Painting tape or masking tape
  • Canvas (we use the ones from Dollar Tree) or cardstock paper
  • Scissors
  • Paint (we used Solid Tempera Paint sticks for less mess, but any tempera or craft paint will work)

The first step is to decide what word or design you want on the canvas or paper. Once you've decided, you will need to cut or tear the tape into strips to make the shape of your design or letters. Stick the tape strips onto the canvas or paper.

You are ready to paint. Cover the whole canvas or paper with the paint colors of your choice. You will need to paint over the tape. If you are using the Tempera sticks, you are now ready to pull the tape off. If you are using regular paint, you will need to wait for it to dry. Once dry, gently pull the tape off and reveal your design!
