Macaroni Kid Review: Annie the Musical at Walton Arts Center

Enjoy this show with your family for Thanksgiving week

Last night, my family & I had the pleasure of attending Annie, the Broadway musical at Walton Arts Center. As of a child of the 80's, I grew up watching Annie & have always loved the story. I have two daughters now who enjoy it as well, so we were very excited to see this live production, and it did not disappoint.
Annie is absolutely delightful. The set is amazing and the acting is wonderful. The girl who plays Annie did a wonderful job. I felt like she was so perfect for the role that it seemed like she was born to do this role! Miss Hannigan was hilarious & played the part perfectly.

This is still the classic Annie story you know, but with a twist.  The Broadway description says that this revival has a darker and more realistic tone, but the story is still pure joy. Set in New York City around Christmas 1933, the show mixes fictional characters like Annie and Warbucks with real-life historical figures like President Franklin Delano Roosevelt & includes references to historical events that may not be caught by the kids, but adults will enjoy.

This Tony award -winning musical features classic tunes including "Tomorrow," "It's a Hard Knock Life" and "Easy Street."
Annie is the perfect Broadway musical for a family outing. However, you should consider that this is a full-length Broadway show, which can be long for a young child’s attention span. The show was around 2.5 hours long, with one 15 minute intermission. There is mild language in this production as well. Miss Hannigan is still drunk and Rooster is still a bad guy, but children will find the show funny and silly, while adults enjoy the jokes on a different level, and everyone goes home feeling good about the bonds of family.
